Is certification through your company the same as Red Cross or AHA?

Our curriculum utilizes the most current standards in CPR and First Aid and AED as dictated by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and the Department of Transportation as well as the guidelines and standards set forth by OSHA.

The difference lies in how the material is presented. Every company can present the same guidelines in a different manner. At Real Life CPR we feel that teaching the classes in an informative but fun and stress-free manner helps students understand and retain what they learned in class longer.

How long are certifications good for?

CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications are all good for two years, some companies will issue just one year certifications. We believe that after two years everyone should have a refresher class to keep their skills sharp.

Bloodborne Pathogen certification is good for one year as this is the length of time mandated by OSHA.

Do you do on-site training?

Yes! We will come to your location and bring all the necessary materials to teach a class to your employees.

Do you give group discounts?

Yes, we do offer group discounts. The group rates are dependent on a few factors: group size, travel distance and class(es) requested. We encourage you to call our office or email us with your specific needs, and we will be happy to give you a quote for training.

Do you offer Healthcare Professional CPR?

Yes, we offer a Professional Rescuer CPR class that is perfect for healthcare professionals who are not moving on to ACLS or PALS.

Can you explain the process of scheduling a class with Real Life CPR?

When you call us for a quote, we will email or fax you a written quote that will be good for 30 days. If you decide to schedule a class with us, we will then have you choose a date and time from our available dates. After that we will send you a quick contract, stating the day and time of the class, what class(es) are being taught and for a minimum number of students. When you return the signed contract we will lock in your date for training. Most times we will follow up a couple days before class to verify the number of students so we are sure to have sufficient materials with us. We will arrive about 30 minutes before class to allow time to set up.

What is a typical class like?

We always send two instructors to every class. We feel this helps to ensure that the class keeps moving in a timely fashion (thus saving your company valuable time) and also it allows your employees to have access to more than one instructor when they have questions they want to ask.

The classes will involve some instruction time, DVD viewing and hands on practice as well as a written test at the end of class.

However, as mentioned above, we like to keep our classes stress free. So our instructors will make sure not to overwhelm the students with a lot of "filler" material that some companies will use just to lengthen the class. Also, the video we use is the best we have ever seen (and we've been taking these classes a lot of years!).

When it's time to practice hands-on CPR, the students will break into groups with the instructors and everyone will get to practice at once. We feel that rather than putting each person "on the spot" in front of the whole class (can we say stress!!) it's much more comfortable for everyone to practice at once while the instructors walk the students through the practice and ensure that everyone has learned the skills correctly.

When we are ready for the written test, the students will take the test and then the instructors will go over the test with the entire group (rather than correct each test one at a time - thus taking up more time!) and the students will self check their test. At that point if anyone has any questions about anything they may have missed on the test, or any other questions they may have, we will gladly spend more time going over the material.

Again, we believe that when there is less stress, the students will feel more comfortable using their skills and remembering them! Our goal is to help educate as many people as possible in these important life-saving skills because our hope is to make the home and work environments a safer place and reduce the instances of disability and death.

Do you just offer training in the Maryland area?

No, we have trained many different types of businesses in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and even as far as Massachusetts!

What types of businesses do you train?

We have trained a variety of businesses including restaurant chains, assisted living facilities, child care centers, fitness centers, manufacturers, electricians, carpenters, and various government agencies among others.

Do you provide references?

Certainly! Please feel free to email or call us and we'd be happy to give you some references to contact.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at time of service unless prior arrangements have been made. We accept checks, cash and you can also pay by credit card. If your company requires an invoice, please let us know in advance. We can either invoice you by email or give you an invoice at the end of class.

Is my company responsible for paying the minimum number of students on our contract?

Yes, your company is responsible for the minimum number of students on the contract. Before we quote you a price we will ask you for an approximate number of students that need trained. Based on that number we will quote you a price and usually we will go a little below that for setting your minimum number in order to allow you some leeway for last minute changes (students who may be sick that day, etc.).

Can I add students to the class after I have signed a contract?

Yes, we almost never have a problem with adding additional students. However, if the number changes drastically, we ask that you please let us know so we will have enough instructors and materials on hand.

Can I get a quote for a flat rate versus per student?

Yes, you can get a quote for a flat rate rather than a per student rate. For a flat rate quote we would just have you give us an approximate number of students you would expect and then we will give you a flat rate for up to a certain number of students.

Are training materials available in Spanish?

Yes, many of our training materials are available in Spanish. Please let us know if you have Spanish speaking employees and we'll be sure to bring the necessary materials for them.
